CALL FOR APPLICATIONS TO THE CEEPA REGIONAL COLLABORATIVE MASTERS PROGRAM CEEPA announces its special masters degree training program in environmental economics and policy offered in collaboration with universities in the eastern, central and southern Africa region involved in supporting post-graduate training in this field of study. Currently there are 14 university departments in the region participating in this program from Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia, Malawi, Botswana, Mauritius and South Africa. The program consists of two components: a course work module and a thesis research component. Required courses Nine credit courses are required for graduation with this degree as described below: 1. The following three core foundation courses of the Africa Economic Research Consortium (AERC) (or their equivalents) are required to be completed at home universities before joining the CEEPA specialisation course program: Microeconomic

2. Six more courses in the specialisation program are required and will be taught at CEEPA. This component will run for about three months (June to August) every year and will be conducted at the University of Pretoria. The six courses required for this specialisation program will run for two terms, each term runs for six weeks and three courses will be offered each term as follows: Term 1
All post-graduate students pursuing a masters degree in economics or agricultural economics at the various university departments in eastern, central and southern Africa are eligible for admission to this program. To qualify for admission students must be registered at one of the participating regional agricultural economics or economics departments. They should have completed or expected to complete the required three AERC core foundation courses (or their equivalents) at their home universities before joining this specialisation course program. The specialisation course work component runs between June and August of every year at the UP. The dead line for receiving applications to this program is 31 March. A special form of application to this program is provided on request. A letter of recommendation from the faculty member in charge of supervising the applicants’ masters degree at home university will be required with the application. The letter of recommendation should provide a proof of the applicants’ eligibility in terms of completion of the AERC foundation courses or their equivalents before the start of the specialisation course component in June 2002.
